Have you hugged your mom today?  The Mother/Daughter Dinner at the New Hope Baptist Church on Mother's Day was a big success again this year.  Pastor Jack gave a tribute to moms.

Genesis 1 for Moms

A Mother’s Day Tribute

By Pastor Charles “Jack” Deyo

In the beginning was Mom.

And Mom’s sleep was void and without form.

And Mom’s Love was hovering over the child and the face of the unknown.

And Mom said, “Let there be warmth,” and there was warmth.

And Mom felt the warmth and that it was good.

Then Mom said, “Let there be diapers to divide the baby from the sheets.”

And it was so.

Then Mom said, “Let the waters under the baby be gathered into one place,

and let the dry baby appear.”

And it was so.

Then Mom said, “Let us go to the store that it may yield

formula and baby food of its kind, Gerber vegetables of its kind,

and Gerber fruits of its kind and cereal of its kind.

And Mom saw the shopping cart,

and saw that is was full.

And Mom saw that it was good.

And Mom bought two great lights.

The greater light to rule in the baby’s room,

and the lesser to rule in the hallway route.

(She bought him a flashlight too -

just in case the power went out.)

And Mom put them in place to shine in the darkness of night -

one dim and the other bright.

And Mom saw the light and that it was good.

Then Mom said, “Let the water fill the bath tub.

Fill it with soap and suds with an abundance of floating toys,

so I can scrub this little baby with happiness and joys.”

And Mom saw the clean baby and saw that it was good.

So Mom blessed the baby and put him in the stroller.

She told the baby, “Sit here for awhile –

you can watch me as I clean the bathroom tile.”

As Mom cooked and cleaned and made everything neat,

always there was the baby in front of her feet.

And Mom saw that it was good.

And Mom watched as the baby grew

always buying clothes that were a size bigger,

and new.

The baby grew and wanted some pets;

he pushed it to the limits as far as it gets.

Then Mom said, “Get those creatures out of my house.

The beast of the earth according to its kind,

the cattle according to its kind,

and everything that creeps on the face of the earth according to its kind.

Get them all out of my house, every last one -

even the mouse.

Everything that swims, and flies through the air,

get them out - out of my hair.”

And Mom spoke and it was so.

Then Mom said, ”Dear Heavenly Father,

You said the two shall be one.

I say this with love and I mean no wrath,

Dear Heavenly Father, You don’t know Your math.

The two became 7.

Now they come to my house every Sunday, early, and for lunch at 11.”

And Mom saw that it was very good.

After Mom saw all that she had done,

she tried to rest and have some fun.

But the Lord knows,

a Mother’s work is never done.
